Worldwide, including in India, there were aircraft delays and cancellations due to a significant outage in Microsoft’s cloud services. Many airlines were impacted by the disruption, which caused planes to be grounded and interfered with airport flying operations in Delhi and Mumbai.

How have airlines responded to the outage?

At the airports in Delhi and Mumbai, Akasa Airlines made the following announcement: “Due to infrastructure issues with our service provider, some of our online services, including booking, check-in, and manage booking services will be temporarily unavailable.”

The airline went on, “As we now use manual check-in and boarding procedures at the airports, we kindly ask travelers with immediate travel schedules to arrive early so they can check in at our counters. We want to reassure you that our teams are collaborating with our service provider to find a quick solution to the inconvenience, for which we truly apologize.

“We’re currently facing a technical issue in providing updates on flight disruptions,” Spicejet stated in a statement. Our group is working hard to find a solution for this problem. We apologize for any inconvenience, and as soon as the problem is fixed, we’ll let you know. Spicejet said in a statement, “We appreciate your cooperation and patience.”

What about global aviation operations?

Due to problems with Microsoft’s services, Frontier Airlines in the US suffered a great deal as the airline grounded planes for more than two hours. Later, Frontier lifted a nationwide suspension on departures and restarted operations. Bookings and reservations were also hampered by the outage. Allegiant Air, a US airline, also experienced delays as it announced that it was having trouble with bookings and reservations. The airline stated that it is working to find a solution. An further “global outage” was reported by Sun Country Airlines Holdings Inc.
